The engineer castle is one of the most recognized and respected brands in the world. Colonel Jonathan Williams, an American spy and Benjamin Franklin's nephew, was the first Chief of Engineers, the first commandant of the U.S. Army Engineer School (USAES), and the first superintendent at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point--and he designed the engineer castle. The castle represents our engineering history. It represents the fortifications that were built by engineers centuries ago, as well as the trenches that sappers dug in order to position artillery.
