For decades, hot water systems consisted of a boiler to produce the hot water, a pump as the prime mover and coils or fin tube with full water flow throughout the system. the advent of the variable frequency drives (VFD) for pump speed control for hot water sys- ems affords us a chance to design our system with a single-loop hot water system with two-way control and multi-staging of boilers. This variable flow system has improved our efficiency. Also, with each re- model or system change, the variable flow system has resolved many problems with balancing the system.
