摘要

The wind resource assessment (WRA) tool is a GUI application for wind data analysis and "siring" (the prediction of the net average energy production of a specific turbine at a specific site) using hourly wind speed data sets in Microsoft~R Excel format. Features of the tool are an exact quantification and characterization of the fuel supply of the wind for three relevant time scales. These can be used to predict wind speed and energy if the model's limitations are understood. The criteria used to ensure that the GUI did a good job were simplicity, consistency, reversibility, error checking, and on-line help. The tool was written in the MATLAB programming language. In this article, we describe how we developed and used the tool to perform a case study of three sites in Trinidad and Tobago, using 11-year data sets obtained at 10m.
