Celebrating AEE's 40th Anniversary

As I sit down to write this editorial, I am also planning my trip to attend the World Energy Engineering Congress (WEEC) in Atlanta. The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) will be celebrating its 40th anniversary at this year's WEEC. It promises to be a big event, and I am looking forward to it for several reasons.I selected a few papers from previous conferences to use as articles in this issue of Energy Engineering. There are always quality presentations at the conference, but some authors put in the extra effort to write papers for the proceedings. Thousands of people have the opportunity to attend AEE-sponsored conferences and attend the presentations. If you can't attend a specific presentation (I always have trouble selecting which ones to attend because with over a dozen occurring simultaneously, you can't see them all), attendees can always read the proceedings. Reading someone's presentation slides is better than nothing, but reading the written paper is the best option. Unfortunately, not everyone has the opportunity to attend the conferences and presentations or to read the proceedings. For this reason, it is beneficial to reproduce some of the conference papers as articles in the journal. It takes a lot of effort to write a conference paper, and we want to reward the authors for that.
