CARBON DIOXIDE: PROBLEM MATTER OR INEXPENSIVE RAW MATERIAL? -An Inventory of Technologies for the Usage and Disposal of CO_2

ECN responded to the threat of an increased natural greenhouse effect, mainly caused by the burning of fossil fuels for power generation, by launching an in-house R&D programme ENGINE (ENergy Generation In the Natural Environment). The ENGINE sub-programme 'H_2-CO_2 Technology', addresses the use of fossil fuels, in particular coal, for the (co)production of electricity and hydrogen in combination with removal, commercial use, and storage of CO_2. As part of this sub-programme a literature inventory is made on the final fate of CO_2, when this greenhouse gas is removed on large scale from flue and fuel gases of power plants, to reduce anthropogenic CO_2 emissions.
