2011 JUL 13 - (VerticalNews.com) -- "We investigated the thermal properties ofrnwater-infiltrated snow on sea ice," scientists in Kanagawa, Japan report.rn"Field observations showed that the temperature of water-infiltrated snow in lowerrnlayers fluctuated about -2 degrees C, significantly less than the temperature fluctuation of dryrnsnow in upper layers. To explain the temperature fluctuations, we estimated the thermalrndiffusivity of snow; that of water-infiltrated snow was one to two orders of magnitude less thanrnthat of dry snow," wrote S. Kojima and colleagues.
