Ethics and Empirical studies of software engineering

About three years ago the national Research council Canada established a research ethics Board (REB) to review all research proposals involving human participation. At the time, my university collaborator and I were gathering requirements for a software engineering Exploration tool. Human participation in our research had three components 1 ) web based Questionnaires; 2) interviews; and 3) observation sessions.
