In last monthis issue of ELEVATOR WORLD (July 2008), we looked at the good news in a case involving a woman, 41, who was hit - and held -by elevator doors as she was returning to her office after a mid-afternoon break. She was personable and smart; an excellent witness who told her simple story smoothly. She was alone, moving at her "normal walking speed" with no one else in sight as she approached the elevators in the lobby landing. She walked directly into an elevator that was standing with the doors open, sensed that the doors were moving, and was hit hard. She was grateful that Mr. W, another building occupant, happened on the scene and did something, she did not know what, to reopen the doors and release her from the grip that was holding her in place. She reported the accident to the building manager and her supervisor. The former was indifferent and the latter could not have cared less about her experience.
