THE INDUSTRY CAREER DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM

The Industry Career Development System (ICDS), developed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), is an attempt to provide a system that prepares the construction industry to pull young people into the industry, as opposed to education systems pushing the "non-college-bound" into it. Employers must participate in this process. Contractors, owners and trade organizations know the construction industry better than any guidance counselor. The industry cannot rely on others to provide career guidance to the future workforce. Contractors, owners and industry organizations must provide leadership in the career development process.
