This year the DMG can already look back on successful society meetings, workshops, and short courses and still look forward to more meetings to come. The DMG sections "Chemie, Physik und Kristallographie der Minerale" (Chemistry, Physics and Crystallography of Minerals) and "Angewandte Mineralogie in Technik und Umwelt" (Applied Mineralogy in Engineering and Environment) held a joint meeting in Bad Windsheim, Germany, on February 26-28. More than 35 scientists participated in the workshop-type meeting with 23 interesting talks and stimulating discussions. I congratulate and thank the organizers Christoph Berthold, University of Tubingen, and Gert K16S, University of Leipzig, for their excellent organization of the meeting (see also the summary by Moritz-Caspar Schlegel in the last issue of Elements). On June 27-28, the two other DMG sections, "Petrologie und Petrophysik" (Petrology and Petrophysics) and "Geochemie" (Geochemistry), held a joint meeting at the Leibniz Universitat Hannover, Germany. The local organizers were Harald Behrens and Stefan Weyer. I am sure that this joint meeting was as successful as the other was.
