Skills shortages constrain performance of UK electronics sector

This article looks at the factors behind the skills shortage in the electronics sector, and suggests some solutions. Recent evidence from the government suggests that the most critical skill shortages currently facing the electronics sector occur in the recruitment of skilled individuals required to fill professional (engineer) level jobs. There are other problems in the sector, but the most acute problems relate to the recruitment of the more highly skilled staff required by the industry. And these are precisely the types of workers which industry needs if it is to make a successful shift into higher value added product areas.
