Biometrics in general means the measurement of some biological quantity pertaining to an individual, which can be used to confirm or determine their identity. Perhaps the best known, and certainly the longest used, is fingerprint analysis. In recent years with the development of compact and powerful computing equipment, many other techniques have been suggested to carry out this task. Several face recognition systems are commercially available, and iris scan was widely publicised when a limited public trial took place.
