Competent management: the key to future prosperity

Nowadays engineers are required to possess professional management skills to complement their technical expertise. In its new policy document, Standards and Routes to Registration (SARTOR) the Engineering Council demands that registered engineers be competent and possess the 'supervisory, management and personal skills required to be effective in both expected and unforeseen situations. Engineers do not necessarily move into management positions by choice, but obtain them by default.
