Power consumption is one of the most prominent topics of interest to designers and it is still needs to be improved upon. Portable electronic devices (typically powered by batteries) rely on energy-efficient schedules to increase their battery's lifetime; whereas nonportable systems need energy-efficient schedules to reduce their operating cost. Early in the design stage, when generally there's a lack of focus on saving power, designers tend to ignore this issue. However, in the development of microcontrollers and integrated circuit technologies, the system is more complicated and consumes more energy, so it is often desirable to maximize efficiency and yet minimize power consumption in order to achieve the best On-chip Microcontroller System (OCMS).
