In the last few decades, the number of casualties on the road has dropped significantly, due partly to the high penetration of safety systems like airbags or electronic stability control. However, this trend slowed down in recent years and the accident statistics show no further reduction in fatalities. One reason is the ever increasing and more complex traffic; another is driver distraction by communication equipment like smart phones whilst driving. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) will help establish a positive trajectory towards zero fatalities. One such feature is 3600 sensing based on camera and radar sensors to provide the driver with a natural view of the car surroundings, to capture all hazards at a glance. In addition, the driver will be assisted in emergency situations by semi-autonomous systems.
