Smarter and more connected robots demand more capable processing units

Robots are becoming increasingly smart and connected, with the latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) opening up unprecedented opportunities in areas such as automatic optical inspection (AOI). Selecting the correct hardware is key to ensuring that each new generation of industrial robots operates and communicates effectively. There are two important hardware components to consider when designing industrial robots: vision processing units (VPU) and protocol converter PC cards. VPUs can bring clear benefits, offering a space-saving, efficient and real-time-capable alternative to GPU- and cloud-based solutions, whilst protocol- independent PC cards can offer a flexible and cost-effective networking solution.
