The European Commission has adopted and sent to the Council and European Parliament two proposals on the modification of the Regulations laying down a uniform format for residence permits of third country nationals (EC) 1030/02 and laying down a uniform format for visas 1683/95. The Commission's intention with these proposals is two-fold: To bring forward the final date for the implementation of the photograph in the uniform format for visa and the residence permit in sticker form from 2007 to 2005 and at the same time, require Member states to integrate biometric identifiers into the visa and the residence permit for third country nationals in a harmonised way, thus ensuring interoperability.
