TRAI recommendations on unified licensing regime

Telecom Authority of India (TRAI) has issued its recommendations on 'Unified Licensing Regime'. With full implementation of unified licensing, service specific licensing regime will come to an end. The recommendations allow Internet Telephony including IP enabled services to Unified License and Niche Operators. India will thus join a group of more than 80 countries where Internet telephony is permitted. According to TRAI press note, the key objective of the Unified Licensing Regime is to encourage free growth of new applications and services leveraging on the technological developments in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
