Wake Forest University (USA) was awarded the first patent for a new solar cell technology that might double the energy production of today's flat cells at a fraction of the cost. The university received the patent for fibre-based photovoltaic (PV) cells from the European Patent Office; applications to the U.S.rnPatent Office are pending.
