US, EU unhappy on local content policy for solar energy projects, India justifies it

While the US and EU expressed their reservations over local content requirements in the country's renewable energy projects, India has stoutly defended its national solar power generation programme at a meeting of World Trade Organisation (WTO) meeting recently. Both the US and the EU (European Union) representatives raised objections to the Indian government's requirement of mandatory use of locally-made equipment at a recent meeting of the WTO's committee on trade related investment measures (Trims), saying the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission violated global trade rules.
