Electronic toll collection to start next financial year

The government of India plans to start rolling out of the automated electronic toll collection (ETC) system at highways before the next fiscal year to clear out traffic hassles at toll plazas and save leakages. The leakages are estimated at about about Rs 1,200 crore. The new system, based on radio frequency identification (RFID), comprises a wireless device called a tag, fitted into a vehicle and a roadside unit placed at the toll plaza.
