Global engines and power systems business Rolls-Royce is a major beneficiary of new UK government support for advanced manufacturing. Last week Business Secretary Lord Mandelson announced a £151.5m package to help manufacturers take up new technologies, with funding directed at the aerospace sector, plastic electronics, the nuclear supply chain and silicon design. Rolls-Royce will receive £45m towards the £300m cost of four new high-tech factories in the UK, three in aerospace and one civil nuclear, and is also playing a leading role in two advanced research programmes.
