Are theFrench deluded about globalisation? One of the main campaign planks of Francois Hollande, the new President, was his attack on the current finance-driven model of capitalism. He has his country with him. Only 31 per cent of the French believe that the free-market economy is the best system available. In no other country polled is the figure that low. In another survey, 80 per cent believe that globalisation is bad for their livelihoods, and want less foreign investment.
