THE CHINESE CONNECTION: HUAWEI AND LENOVO REBUFF SECURITY CLAIMS

Early finger-pointing in the US against the security of some Huawei products started taking placein2012- months before the company's 3G dongle insecurities were revealed at Black Hat Europe in March of 2013.In the summer of 2012, former NSA and CIA head Michael Hayden - along with a 2012 House Intelligence Committee report in the US -made some allegations that the Chinese vendor's routers had integral backdoors in them. Various telcos and government agencies - most notably in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the UK and the US -have subsequently prohibited the use of equipment made by various Chinese manufacturers owing to concerns that hardware-level backdoors could exist in the units.
