摘要

The research that shows that 38 per cent of parents consult their children on matters technological may not be that indicative of whether they are more clever than their parents. What we have here is a statement that just over a third of adults consult their kids and that doesn't allow us in a statistically meaningful way to make the point that children are smarter. Also there, is the implication that there could be as many as two-thirds of the sample who don't. I would say that being able to handle technology is a very limited view of what smartness actually is. I think it's true that children find digital technology more natural, simply because they were brought up with it. Thirty years ago people were saying that they got their kids to help them programme their video recorder, and quite frankly I think most people would have needed assistance of some sort to deal with that kind of challenge.
