1. Guitarist Eric Clapton is passionate about watches, in particular those made by Patek Philippe. In 2012 his 'ultra-rare' reference 2499/100, one of only two cased in platinum, sold for £2.3m at auction. 2. First man to me top of Everest, Edmund Hillary, made his legendary 1953 summit success wearing a Rolex Oyster Perpetual. The watch inspired Rolex to produce the Explorer, which is now the timepiece of choice for mountaineers.
