PMC - an 'open standard' local bus for VME system builders

Those in the VME and 'open bus community predict that this year will see the launch of a host of PCI Mezzanine card (PMC) modules. Single-board computer manufacturers such as Motorola, DEC, CETIA, VMIC, Heurikon, Force Computers, Themis Computer and others have elected to build their current generation CPU boards with one or more PMC mezzanine sites. Why? And who is going to supply the demand to fill an open mezzanine site on a CPU board?
