OrCAD offer Internet design help to PCB designers

The first fruits of the recent merger between OrCAD and MicroSim, in the form of Release 9 of their desktop EDA tools, are now being shipped. The even more recent announcement that Summit Design have, by way of a merger, joined the OrCAD corporate club adds a new opportunity to add to OrCAD's Windows NT portfolio, solutions to the design problems associated with verification, code coverage and graphical interfaces. There are many messages emanating from the the Release 9 announcement. One of which is "shrink wrapped" point tool design solutions are passe, today's needs can only be satisfied by a modular architecture. A message that says to be competitive individual designers or design team members require a common interface connected to a centralised shared component data base and library for PCB layout, FPGA/CPLD design and analogue design.
