摘要

Washington - Responding to industry pressure and congres-sional inaction on export control legislation, the Bush administration last week eased restrictions on computer and microprocessor exports. The White House said it would raise the computing level above which it requires computer export licenses to so-called "Tier 3 countries"-including China, India, Pakistan and Rus-sia-to 190,000 Mtops, or millions of theoretical operations per second. The current level is 85,000 Mtops. U.S. export restrictions on general-purpose microprocessors would also rise, from 6,500 to 12,000 Mtops. The move thus effectively accommodates exports of the Intel Corp. Itanium processor. That device otherwise would have been subject to strict export-licensing requirements.
