Freescale nabs UWB design win, backs USB 2.0

Orlando-Freescale Semiconductor Inc. fired off both barrels of its chip shotgun last week in an effort to establish its direct-sequence technology in the continuing ultrawideband wars. The company said that it has nabbed its first UWB design win as well as a partner that will offer a path to the support of USB 2.0 by the end of the year. The news, which the company released at the first Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) here, keeps Freescale in a neck-and-neck race with the larger Multiband OFDM Alliance. The alliance aims to deliver initial wireless USB silicon by year's end.
