Scheme eyes test tool mix and match

Santa Cruz, Calif. —When Nvidia Corp. won the contract to design the graphics processing unit for the Sony Playstation 3, it expected smooth sailing with Sony's fab operation. But incompatible test tools became a barrier. That provided the impetus for a new standards effort. The Accellera standards organization's Open Compression Interface (OCI) technical committee is developing a scheme that will let users mix and match scan compression, automatic test pattern generation (ATPG) and diagnostic tools from different vendors.
