Multimedia data structures, such as image, video, and audio files, have proliferated into almost every other type of file. So, researchers at Sun Microsystems Inc., Mountain View, Calif., have responded by crafting an entirely new processor architecture to better deal with media-rich files. The processor also can handle network data packets and flow-control applications more efficiently, thus speeding the data flow through the network.
