An estimated $7.601 billion will be spent over the next 10 years on the development and production of the land-and sea-based electro-optical (EO) systems and programs covered in this analysis. Of the major systems, a total of 905,104 units will be produced. During the first half of the forecast period, from 2008 through 2012, some 610,406 units will be produced, while over the 2013 through 2017 timeframe, 294,698 units are expected to be produced. A sizable segment of the EO market will continue to be driven by the procurement needs of very active military forces. The simple, pressing need for troop-level systems such as night vision goggles and thermal viewing systems is likely to dominate the production and procurement picture for the next few years.
