The next 10 years should see high rates of production for the ALE-55 fiber-optic towed decoy (FOTD) for a variety of U.S. Navy airborne applications. Low-rate initial production for the F/A-18E/F has begun as a replacement for the older ALE-50. The Pentagon in April 2009 awarded BAE Systems a $33.6 million modification to a previously awarded contract for ALE-55 subsystems plus associated technical support and non-recurring engineering for U.S. Navy and Royal Australian Air Force F/A-18E/F aircraft.
