NFPA to Approve New Security Standard

The national fire protection association (NFPA) is scheduled to approve a premises security standard in May. Titled NFPA 730, the new standard sets minimum security needs in hotels, schools and industrial plants and other facilities. Ray Grill, an engineer with Sako & Associates/The RJA Group, gave an overview of the premises security project at the National Facilities Management and Technology Conference/Exposition in Baltimore last month. According to Grill, the security project, conceived by the NFPA in 1994, "describes construction, protection and occupancy features and practices intended to reduce security vulnerabilities to life and property."
