Hill auditorium, dedicated in 1913 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is acclaimed for its excellent acoustics. It is a four-story, red brick building with four large, Doric-style stone columns on the front entrance that was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. At an original cost of $282,000, the auditorium was designed by Detroit architect Albert Kahn and his associate Ernest Wilby. Hill Auditorium is famous for housing the Frieze Memorial Organ, which was originally used at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Although the organ has since been replaced, some of the original pieces remain.
