Help Set the Standard: Get Involved with National Electrical Installation Standards

This standard joins dozens of other National Electrical Installation Standards (NEIS)™ that are used by construction owners, specifiers and contractors to clearly illustrate the performance and workmanship standards essential for different types of electrical construction, many of which are ANSI-approved. NECA developed NEIS in the early 1900s, to define "good workmanship"—a term that appears throughout plans and specs—for the electrical industry. This effort benefited contractors and their customers by removing subjectivity from performance and quality of work, which until that time were addressed only in the National Electrical Code. NECA was determined to find a way to clearly describe the precision and careful craftsmanship that electrical installations demand. Today NEIS has published more than 30 standards that meet this challenge. NEIS are also referenced throughout the National Electrical Code, serving as performance and workmanship industry standards for electrical construction.
