Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) is seeing the light in California. The energy company is nearing completion of its plan to upgrade 150,000 streetlights across its service territory to more reliable and efficient LED technology. According to PG&E, its lighting upgrades will reduce burnouts by up to 40 percent, and the new LED units will last 20 years, four times the lifespan of the high-pressure sodium vapor lamps they replace.
