Success in the electric power industry today and in the future comes down to taking care of your customers. If you're focused on creating value for your customers, business success will follow. Customers have more power, choice, and influence than ever before. As electric companies adapt, the regulatory compact also must evolve to support the new technologies and innovations customers are demanding. At Nova Scotia Power, we are installing an electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging network outside of our regulated business. We made this decision after our regulator declined to bring the investment into rate base because it was not supported by our governing legislation-which was adopted in 1988 and did not envisage EV charging stations. While we respect the decision of our regulator, governments and regulators have a clear role to play in enabling investments in innovation and customer experience, and some of that needs to happen through modernizing our regulatory frameworks.
