When I began searching Dialog in 1981, I did not question its content, but rather held the service and its databases in the highest of regard. Over the years, I have come to understand the reality, which is that the online databases—in Dialog and elsewhere—are not perfect, and that perfection has not been quantified. Then came an opportunity to put the Dialog databases under a microscope.
