Onfolio Professional Edition 1.0 & Lycos HotBot Desktop (Beta)

Information professionals require an I arsenal of tools to help gather and organize vast quantities of information. And they (and their managers) are always looking for ways to make the process more efficient. Here we look at two utilities that combine functions that often requires several software programs into a couple of very handy multi-purpose tools. Knowledge workers are keenly aware of the limitations of an Internet browser's Favorites utility, which provides a way to drop Web site links into individual folders, yet fails to take into account that that information comes from a variety of different sources. Onfolio takes the best of the Favorites folder and juices it up, providing a way to capture information and save it wherever it resides, then annotate and share it with others. The HotBot Desktop toolbar picks up where the Google toolbar leaves off. It provides a quick way to search the Web, but also offers the power to index then search email, local files, and RSS source material, which gives knowledge workers access to a whole world of information inside Internet Explorer. Both of these tools fill big holes in the information gathering toolkit, and while neither is perfect by any means, for a minor investment in Onfolio or, in the case of HotBot, for free, you can provide your knowledge workers with some powerful tools for finding and organizing information.
