摘要

Entropy is one of several thermodynamic indicators, that are used to give a holistic image of organisms, ecosystems and the entire ecosphere. The application of entropy as an indicator is rooted in the Second Law of Thermodynamics: an entropy production by irreversible processes (and all real processes are irreversible, which means that all system inevitably will produce entropy), implies that the system is coming closer to the thermodynamic equilibrium and more free energy (work energy) is transformed to heat energy.
