By successfully increasing the insulating capability of a conventional telecom relay, today's communications needs can be met. However, the rapid growth of global networking, broadband switching systems, and converging voice, data and imaging communications is making the switch interface function in communications devices even more complicated. Continuing market demands for increased functionality and smaller, more efficient equipment means relay manufacturers must conserve more printed circuit board space through smaller, more efficient designs. Manufacturers must also stay in tune to international standards for the global marketplace and environmental concerns, as these two areas are playing an increasing role in the requirements for tomorrow's relay designs.
