Bluetooth offers a convenient and unprecedented way of tracking and monitoring access not currently experienced with key cards, pin codes, and fobs. In many situations, personnel might loan their proximity cards to other employees, going against security protocol and risking a breach. However, with cell phones, individuals are more likely to view their phones an extension of themselves and are less likely to loan their phones to others. "Cell phones have more value to an individual than a traditional access credential like a prox card. You probably wouldn't stop your car in traffic if you forgot your prox card, but you probably would if you forgot your phone," says Paul Bodell, President and CEO of ECKey, a cloud-based access control software developer based in Lancaster, PA.
