New oil and gas exploration and drilling equipment designs, especially those intended for use in deep and difficult geological conditions, continuously demand electronic components capable of reliable, longer lifetime operation in extremely harsh and ever-higher temperature environments. In recent years, operating temperature requirements in the oil and gas industry have increased from 200℃ to 230℃ and above, and lifespan requirements have increased from hundreds of hours to up to 1,000 hours. With regard to capacitors, several oil and gas applica- tions also require high capacitance values in addition to electrical and mechanical robustness and long lifetime performance. However, capacitors that can withstand extreme stress and deliver both high capacitance and long lifetime performance in temperatures above 175℃ - or even 125℃ - are not widely available on today's market.
