Kaolinite History in the Weathering Crust and Associated Clay Deposits: EPR Data

The chemical composition, crystallochemical, and technological properties of minerals from argillaceous rocks change significantly during their formation [1,2]. It was previously demonstrated that structural peculiarities of eluvial and sedimentary kaolinites could be traced by EPR spectra [3,4]. This publication presents the results of the EPR-study of kaolinite from argillaceous rocks, which underwent lithogenesis of various stages: initial kaolin of weathering crust → proluvial, deluvial, and limnetic secondary kaolin → limnetic and swampy fireproof → deltaic and lagoon fireproof clays from a number of objects of the Voronezh Arch (Fig. 1).
