摘要

Based on the complex geological and geophysical investigations performed during the last tens years, Elbrus, one of the largest Quaternary volcanoes of Northern Eurasia, was related to the category of at least potentially active volcanoes [ 1 and others]. This has stimulated study of the history and regularities of the evolution of magmatism in the Elbrus area. The fact that remnants of ignimbrite and tuff covers are abundant in the Elbrus area, especially on its western and northern slopes, is of special interest. Some researchers [2] previously considered these pyroclastic formations as material evidence for the caldera stage in the history of Elbrus.
