DRUGS FOR PARKINSON'S DISEASE REVIEWED

Since we reviewed the treatment of patients with Parkinson's disease in 1984, new drugs have been introduced, different formulations of older drugs have become available, and our understanding of treatment has improved. In this article we review the drugs now available and consider how they should be used to best advantage. Idiopathic Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegen-erative disorder that affects around 165/100 000 population in the UK. Prevalence increases with age, so that the disease affects around 1 in 200 people aged over 65 years.
