Authority (PRPA) wilt add up to 7 million teu under a new master plan, with new capacity to be added at its south Kaien Island site, and the west Kaien Fairview terminal. The DP World-operated Fairview terminal, which currently stands at 1.35 million teu, will be increased to 1.8 million teu by 2022, under an agreement with the terminal giant made in 2018. However, devised in partnership with infrastructure consultant AECOM, a new plan calls for a new 2.5 million teu terminal development at the southernmost point of Kaien Island. These developments will join up seamlessly with growing bulk handling and capacity at neighbouring Ridley Island, which also comprises a propane export terminal operated by AltaGas, exporting gas extracted in British Columbia and Alberta to markets throughout Asia.
