TEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE FOR NEW MUSIC

The aim was to create unconventional and temporary spaces dedicated to music. The finalist schemes are on show at the Aedes am Pfefferberg Gallery in Berlin (until 5 March). The winners, from Nuremberg-based studio Eyland 07 (Rene Rissland and Jiirgen Lehmeier), proposed a flexible piece of architecture to be assembled according to a series of acoustic modules that absorb, diffuse and reflect sound. Built at full scale, on 13 February they will be tested inside the gallery with the performance Layers News Opera. Robert Schwarz and Mark Neuner (Divany), from Vienna, winners of the second prize, have designed a suspended construction made from elements in polystyrene. Third place went to another original idea, the HoveringSonicCap, a roof filled with helium developed by Berlin group AG J.-P. E. R. Sonntag and CC.Mehlhose + Thomas Reinke.
